Many visitors from all over the world come to this island every year to practice this activity. Whether for nature lovers, interested in guided walking tours, Nordic walking enthusiasts or expert mountaineers, La Palma has a lot to offer. The northern part of the island is home to the Taburiente Caldera, one of the largest erosion craters in the world, a giant caldera almost 2500m high and with a diameter of 9 km. In the southern part of the island is the Cumbre Vieja, the youngest volcanic mountain range, which also measures almost 2000m high. Along the crest of this volcanic chain there is a beautiful trail, the Volcano Route.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along the edge of the Cumbre Vieja, an elevation that extends along the Caldera from the center of the island to Fuencaliente in the south, you can take excursions on foot and enjoy the typical volcanic landscape of the island. A path that leads through black cinder fields, extinct craters, lava flows and otherworldly rock formations, all with fantastic views of the Atlantic Ocean.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The roads and trails of La Palma are very well signposted, marked and classified in accordance with the &#8220;European Rambler Association&#8221; (ERA) conventions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The shorter trails are marked S.L. which means \u201cSendero local\u201d (local trail). These are walks less than 10 kilometers long and there are 36 of them on La Palma. The P.R. trails are shown below. PR means \u201cShort Distance Trail\u201d (short distance track), and are trails that can be completed in 1 day. There are 42 of them on La Palma. Finally there are the G.R. trails. G.R. means \u201csendero de Largo Recorrido\u201d (long-distance trail), and these take more than 1 day to complete.
